An overview of google earth:
The google earth is basically renowned mapping web based software that was formerly known as the earth viewer and was a product of the Keyhole Inc. After acquiring it in the year 2005 the google authorities renamed it and brought about some drastic changes with addition of some useful features to the software. This software is absolutely free downloadable from the official website of the google earth. The goggle earth is compatible software and can run on almost most of the currently available operating systems for personal computers including the different versions of the Microsoft windows, Mac OSX and Linux. The google earth also features satellite imagery that is enabled with the earth database. The resolution for the images from satellite imagery is quite reasonable for many big cities like London, Washington D.C. and Seattle. The user can identify individual buildings, houses, cars to even the shadows of people and the street signs. Most of the land areas covered by the google earth satellite imagery are covered at a resolution of 15 meters per pixel. However the degree of resolution may vary depending upon the basis of points of interests.

A word on satellite imaging:
Satellite imaging also known as remote sensing is the measurement or acquisition of information of an objector phenomenon, by a recording device that is not in physical or intimate contact with the object. Whereas in real practice the scenario is a little bit different. Remote sensing is actually the utilization of a device at a considerable distance from the surface of the earth for gathering information about the environment. At present the term remote sensing is used since the scope of gathering has not only been restricted to satellites only. For example aircrafts, spacecrafts or space ships are also being used for the collection of relevant information and numerous geographical data of the earth. The data acquisition techniques also vary a lot in different processes. It mainly depends upon the object or the phenomena that is being observed. However on an average basis most of the satellite imaging is done through with the aid of emitted or reflected electromagnetic radiation of the object of interest within a certain domain of the frequency.

A word on the specifications of google earth:
The system mode of operation of google earth is accomplished through coordinate systems. The data is stored in and then presented using the standard WGS84 datum. The baseline resolutions for the United States of America are 15 meters. However the baseline resolution on a global basis is generally also the same. It is important to note in this regard that some of the South American countries are covered in extremely low resolution. There are some typical high-resolution zones for example the google campus that is covered with zooming of up to 1 meter to 0.15 meters. The resolution is only applicable for the surface as the seabeds are covered. Many a times the ages of structures and monuments that are covered are mentioned. This generally covers public buildings that are up to 3 years old.

We are not the company "Google" which is a registered trademark. We are a non affiliated 3rd party who is providing no cost tips, advice and troubleshooting for various software included in the "Google Software Pack".
I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
