When you start Google Earth for the first time, My Places folder in Places panel is empty. My places folder is used to hold places that you wish to save. Every item that is located in my places folder is saved for the coming Google Earth sessions. If you do not save or move the items to My places folder then these items are not available in next Google Earth session even if you saved them in temporary places folder. Creating an Overlay:
1] Position 3D viewer where you wish to place overlay image file. Position the viewer so that you are able to see the overlay. In case the overlay is of detailed view then zoom into subject area so that there is no need to make any large adjustments later. With Google Earth, it is possible to place custom images and SketchUp 3D models over view of the earth. These image overlays offer additional information about underlying earth imagery.
For instance, you can use imagery of parcel boundaries and site plan to view development stages over particular parcel. Use image maps that are publicly available for things such as camping spots, hiking trails, fishing locations, theme parks, national park boundaries and more.
Use maps of satellite weather data that update frequently to reflect recent weather imagery of that region. Google SketchUp is a software that enables users to generate 3D models and share with others.

With Google Earth, you can 'fly' to various parts of the world at your own pace.
Besides touring directions, it is also possible to tour items in places listings by simply choosing the checkbox that is next to items you wish to tour and then clicking on play tour button located at the bottom of places panel. Your tour starts playing in 3D viewer that lies to each and every location and then stops for some time before flying to next location in the list. In case you want to stop the tour, you have to click on stop tour button that is beneath places listing. To resume or pause, you need to click on play tour button.

We are not the company "Google" which is a registered trademark. We are a non affiliated 3rd party who is providing no cost tips, advice and troubleshooting for various software included in the "Google Software Pack".
I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
