Basics of Google Earth software
How does the Google Earth software works?
There are basic as well as advanced features of Google Earth. Once you install the software, the best option is to take the sight seeing tour. This is recommended as it gives a brief introduction of this software and shows how the images will look when you are flying. You will also be able to see previously created tours.
What are the features of Google Earth?
“Fly To” feature: You will use this feature frequently in Google Earth interface. Basically, it is a search field. All you have to do is enter an address, state, city, zip code or cross streets into search box and then click the “search” box. Google Earth will take you to that destination within no time.
Directional Controls: With Google Earth, you can make use of directional controls for controlling flying directions. You can easily control this fully, as you would do when playing a video game or flying a real airplane. You can also zoom in, drive, and tilt with an overhead view or a horizontal view. The horizontal view is a real fun across 3D buildings. You can also fly backwards or select a compass direction to fly. Google Earth will also teach you some shortcuts and tricks such as holding the right button of the mouse while pulling or pulling for zooming in and out.
Search Features: There are 2 types of searches in Google Earth. One is referred as 'business search' and other one is called as “Local Search”. You can use local search for finding anything from neighborhoods to landmarks in a particular location. If you know the name of business or type of business you are looking then in such a situation you can use “ Business Search” box and type the information in that box. The results will be displayed instantly. You can enter the address, the area or for a more general search you can type something like “bicycle repair in New York State”. These search options make use of Google's mapping technology that provides accurate results.
You will be able to see email, print driving directions or maps. After double clicking on a particular business, you will be given more information about that business such as telephone number and address.
When you click “more” in balloon image that you obtain as a result of your business search, a new browser window opens along with the Google Map of that area. Scroll down and you will find lots of information related to that business such as hours of operations and relevant links.
How to Save a Location?
Suppose you have found a place of interest on that globe. If you are thinking what to do with it, well, you have plenty of choices actually. One option is that you print that page. You can also mail it to a family member or a friend. Another option is to bookmark that place for later use by creating a “placemark”, a thumbtack icon that saves the location even after you switch off the computer.
