Google Earth basics
Once I have installed Google Earth on my computer, how to zoom in closer to Earth?
You can do this in a variety of ways:
1) If your mouse has multiple buttons then double click the left button to zoom in and right button for zooming out. 2) You can also use mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out. 3) If your pc does not have a mouse then you can use CTRL-DOWN or CTRL-UP key combination. 4) You can also make use of navigation gadgets, “-” and “+” buttons with a slider on far upper right for changing the altitude.
All these methods help in adjusting your altitude above Earth's surface.
How to move Earth to a particular position?
Click a point on the Earth with your left mouse button and then move the cursor in the middle of viewing window.
How to tilt view in Google Earth?
Hold PAGE DOWN key and watch Google Earth tilt your view. PAGE UP will tilt your view back up. Make sure that terrain layer of Google Earth is turned on. A simple way to pan and tilt your view is by clicking and holding the middle mouse button or the scroll wheel button. If you have a one mouse button then you should use the above navigational or key control techniques. A 3-button mouse is always recommended. While holding the middle mouse button when you move the mouse backward and forward, it will tilt your view.
How to rotate the view about a particular point?
By holding the middle button, you can tilt your view but when you hold the SHIFT key, you can constraint the tilt which will enable you to rotate the view.
Will Google Earth run on my computer?
Google Earth makes use of 3D graphics capabilities on newer MACs and PCs. If you have installed Google Earth on a notebook computer or an older machine that does not include 3D graphics capabilities, you may be unable to run Google Earth application. 3D graphics capabilities decide a lot with how well the application performs.
Are all cities and other important places covered in detail throughout the world?
Google Earth covers the entire world with medium resolution satellite imagery. The resolution enable users to see all man made development that include towns and major geographic features but not details of individual buildings. High-resolution imagery is available in major cities in Western Europe, US, UK and Canada.
When were these images taken and how often they are updated?
These images are nothing but photographs taken by satellites in the last 3 years. Updates are done on a rolling basis.
How to find points of interest?
The “Layer” panel has different data points of interest that you may choose for displaying over your viewing area.
What longitude and latitude formats can be used in Google Earth?
Currently multiple input formats are supported for GPS coordinates.
