Google Earth’s Data and Imagery sets

Why does the images blurry up?

Check the streaming indicator if it has reached 100%. This indicator is displayed at the bottom of the image. 100% indicates that the image download is complete. In such a case, ideally you should be able to view the complete and clear image. However, if edge is blurred, it is possible that Google Earth may not be having high resolution data for that location.

Another reason which can give rise to this problem is that the images for some areas appear blurred or discolored, due to reasons like cloud cover, etc.

In such a case you can report it to Google Earth at its database report page and it will definitely look into the matter. Moreover, it is also trying to include more and more areas under its high-resolution imagery therefore. If in case, non availability of high resolution imagery is the problem will be able to get clear images in the future.

Why is the address for a location shown wrong?

Google Earth is able to search the entire world according to city and country. However, the street-Level address search, business listings, driving directions is limited to a few countries only. Therefore, if you search in such locations you may get a wrong address.

Google Earth provides high-resolution data for many other countries, for which you can get the correct address for a particular location.

Google Earth is aware of the problem and inconvenience faced by its users due to wrong addresses. The reason why wrong address is displayed is that Google Earth uses the technique of interpolation. In this technique, it clutters a number of addresses together, in a single block, and it assumes that there must be equal distribution of addresses in that block. For example, for ten addresses if the 800th block of the main street the halfway point must be the fifth address.

Ideally it should use a data base which would precisely, match the addresses according to rooftops. However, such a database is and available. It hopes for having such a system in the near future which will enable the users themselves to correct the addresses for which they search.

As an option you can try entering the nearest intersection of roads. Also, mention your city/zip code or state. For example, if want to search for Laurel Street also mention San Carlos Avenue. When you get the results you will be able to get identify the address which you want.

Why do the country borders not appear properly?

The data which Google Earth uses for displaying the country borders and populated areas has a maps scale of 1:1000,000 and an horizontal accuracy of less than 2 KM. Therefore, you are able to zoom on the borders. Therefore, it is possible that the border will be displayed at a distance of about 2 km from where it actually is. It is trying hard to resolve the issues with accuracy and comprehensiveness of the data which it gets from third parties.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
