Saving, deleting and places data in Google Earth
Saving places data: You can now save entire folders, shapes, and even place marks to your machine's hard drive. The folder or place mark file is saved as a KMZ file, which can be opened at any time. You may want to save data for reasons given below:
1] You wish to share saved data with some other Google Earth users: It is possible to email any folder, shape or place mark to Google Earth users from within the Google Earth. Any KMZ file that is located on your machine can be sent via mail to Google Earth users. In addition, you can also post KMZ files to Google Earth BBS from where other Google Earth user can see the information. You can also serve the KMZ file on your web server.
2] There are so many places in My places folder, that is why Google Earth start up is slow: Each time you launch Google Earth, places data is processed during the start up, even though it is off in 3D viewer. Having a lot of data in 'My places' folder can hamper Google Earth's performance, depending upon your machine. When you save folders to hard drive ,you improve the performance of Google Earth. Once the data is saved onto your disk, you can delete it from 'My places'. The saved data can be opened at any time.
3] Save individual placemarks, entire folders or shapes, by simply right clicking the item and then select 'save as' from pop up menu. Use file dialog box for saving the folder or placemark to your computer. Give name to your new file and then click save in dialog box. The folder or placemark is then saved to the Location with .kmz extension.
Deleting Places data: There are many ways to remove data from 'Places panel'.
Delete: Right click a folder, a placemark in 'Places' panel and then select delete from pop up menu. For deleting items in 3D viewer, right click on the icon and then select delete from pop up menu. This will delete the item from 'places panel'. If the item is in 'Temporary places' then it will not be visible the next time you make use of Google Earth. If the item is precisely saved then you can open the saved data whenever you want. Otherwise, the item is removed permanently.
Delete Key: With the item (folders and placemarks) selected in places panel, you will have to just press delete key. A confirmation dialog box then appears and asks whether to delete the item. Click OK for removing the item from Places panel.
Delete Contents: Right click on the folder and then choose delete contents from pop up menu. Click on the 'yes' button of confirmation dialog box. All contents of the folder are then removed, including the subfolders.
Cut Contents: First, right click an item in 'Places' panel and then choose 'cut' from pop up menu. The item is then removed from the view or listing, but is copied to clip board. Later you can then paste it to another location.
