Steps to record movies in Google Earth

Creating movies is a graphics intensive and memory intensive process. Before you start recording movies, make sure that not all multiple large applications are running on your machine during recording. You will have to disable both pop up blockers and screen savers.

Step to record movies are as follows:

1] From tools menu, choose 'movie maker'. Moviemaker dialog box will appear

2] From compression format selector, select desired compression format for the movie.

In case users want movie formats other than Quick time or Windows media video, check 'advanced ' checkbox and then select the format. In case you desire to choose another movie format, standard AVI compression is only available. As AVI file formats are uncompressed, it will result only in large files.

3] Select standard quality or high quality as movie quality: View the movie quality levels for detail

4] Choose FPS (frames per second) you want for the movie: Highest FPS settings i.e. 60 will provide the best movie viewing experience, however the file size should be large. For instance if you are interested in recording 800 x 600 movie at sixty FPS then you simply cannot accomplish the best results. In such cases, you will have to select a lower setting to generate a smaller file. The lower your FPS settings more jerky will be your movie. You will have to look for the best compromise that is between file size and frame size. Setting of thirty works well for movies, you wish to provide on the internet.

5] Select the resolution of the movie: You will have to choose a resolution appropriate for the final movie display. For instance, you may have a screen projector supporting an 800 x 600 format. You can then specify the resolutions such as 320 x 240, 800 x 600, and 640 x480. They indicate width and height of a movie in pixels.

6] Specify a valid name for the movie: Click on browse button and then select a location where you would like to save your movie file after you have finished recording. In file dialog box, type the name of the movie file and then click on OK button.

Alternatively, you can also choose an existing file (movie file) in same format and that existing file will be overwritten with contents of new recording. Now in Google Earth, if you are going to record a movie as image stream then the best option would be to select a new folder location or filename instead of overwriting an already existing image stream.

7] Click on Record tour button: The button becomes enabled only after entering a valid filename for the movie. When the movie recording process begins, moviemaker dialog box will appear below so you can actually visualize recording of your movie. In very high quality movies, recording occur very slowly as each frame is processed fully before the next frame is viewed.

When you finish recording the movie, in order to stop recording, you should click on stop recording button that is in moviemaker dialog box. After the recording is finished, you can now open your movie file in any media player that supports your movie file format.
