New Features in Google Earth 4.3

New exciting features have been added in this version of Google Earth:

Navigation Controls: Zoom and move into any place using navigation controls. To use and view the navigation controls, you will have to move the mouse cursor over the right corner of 3D viewer. After you start this software, move the mouse cursor over this area. The navigation controls will fade from sight if the mouse cursor is moved elsewhere. For viewing these controls again, move the cursor over the same area. These navigation controls provide the same type of navigation that can also be achieved with mouse navigation. You can also use these controls to swoop, rotate or to zoom your view.

The sun and sunlight can be also displayed across the landscape. For doing this, perform the following steps:

1] Click view option and select the sun button. The present level of daylight is displayed at the location that you are viewing. The time slider also appears.

2] For changing the time, you need to drag the time slider left or right. Depending upon the time of year and location, you can view the sunset or sunrise while looking west and east.

3] The animation of sunlight can also be displayed across the landscape. For that, you will have to click time slider play button.

4] For hiding the sun, click the view option and then select sun button. This feature creates a dramatic effect, when you view mountainous or hilly terrain.

3D Buildings: Hundreds of photo realistic buildings can be viewed in many cities of the world using Google Earth. To view these, do the following:

1] You can turn on the 3D buildings feature by checking 3D buildings folder in Layers panel.

2] Position the Google Earth viewer over a big city such as New York. Some 3D buildings will start appearing from an elevation of 10000 feet. The current viewing height can also be determined by checking the eye elevation meter that is located on the lower right of 3D viewer. The 3D buildings in Google Earth look like light gray objects.

3] You can view the buildings in detail using the zooming feature. Make use of navigation controls to obtain the best view of these buildings. They will appear purple when the mouse cursor is moved over certain buildings. Click these buildings for viewing additional information from 3D Warehouse.

4] You can also hide the building by right clicking it and then choosing the hide building option.

Imagery date information: Google Earth shows approximate date in the status bar of displayed imagery. The date is displayed in the 3D viewer at the bottom. Note that the date shown is only approximate and is not exact.

Street Level imagery: In certain areas, it is possible to navigate and view street level imagery as you do in Google Map. For doing this:

1] Check street view in layers panel. If this feature is in current view, photo icons will appear at locations along with available views.

2] Zoom in until the individual streets can be seen.

3] Click any photo icon. You will find that a balloon appears.

4] Select the show full screen. 3D viewer will display imagery of this place.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
