Bookmarking a location in Google Earth

Google Earth, a software that can be used for a number of reasons is primarily intended to help you in finding geographic locations of our planet. The software will allow you to go to any location without any restriction. You can see the Alps or the Great Wall of China, the Eifel Tower, the African Sahara and much more. If this was not enough, Google Earth allows you take a dip in the water. The user interface of the software is such a way that anyone having basic computer knowledge can use it.

One of the easiest things to do in Google Earth is to mark a place. This is not at all difficult and you could do it within seconds. This is indeed a handy feature provided by Google Earth. There are plenty of advantages of bookmarking a place. Firstly, once you bookmark a particular place, you can return to the spot quickly using a simple mouse click. Another advantage is that you are able to measure the distance between any 2 locations quickly. After bookmarking, it is also possible to compare 2 sites and find out information about the different positions on Earth.

Do you know how to bookmark a place? If your answer is “no” then the instructions given below will make “bookmarking a place” an easy task:

1] First and foremost, you have to select the location that you wish to bookmark. Find the address of that place that you desire to bookmark. Type the address in the window commonly referred as “Fly to” window. There are basically 2 ways to zoom to that location. You can choose any one as both are easy. You can either click on that magnifying glass or press the enter button to zoom in and see a closer view of the location that you have typed. In case, if you observe that the software has zoomed in to another location then just ensure that you have correctly typed the location in “Fly to” window.

A square box will be seen on your location. The square box appears next to physical address. The box may also appear on the name of that location that you had typed. In case, you put your mouse cursor over square box then the box changes to bluish green color. Place your mouse cursor over the box and right click on it. A list of options will appear as soon as you click on the box. Now move the mouse cursor down and then click on the option “Save to my places”.

The above steps bookmark the location and you will be able to see your new location bookmarked on left side. You can explore the software further and go to other locations. In order to return to the location that you have bookmarked, you have to just click on the link that you will see on the left hand side of your computer screen. The above steps if done correctly will give you the desired result without any problem.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
