Build your own 3D models with Google SketchUp

Google Earth gives you power to fly around the globe in a minute right on your computer. Just type in the name of place you want to explore and you can start discovering that place in a second.

If you are new to Google Sketch up, all new Getting Stared application is introduced; now this contains self-paced tutorials and some new links connecting to some important areas on website. 1. Install and start Google SketchUp; Run SketchUp before starting Google Earth for high performance, this will help to run Google Earth with high speed.

2. Now install Google Earth and select the Terrain check box to confirm that you have selected Terrain. Set the Google Earth elevation exaggeration to 1 for correct elevations in final model. Select size of 3 D viewer as large as possible this improves clarity of terrain images imported to SketchUp.

3. In Google Earth, freeze fly down to location where you want to build your model looking straight down.

4. In SketchUp, click “Get Current View” and take snap of terrain that is displayed in Google Earth.

5. Build your model over the image in SketchUp. Add a basement if location has slopes. Images in Google SketchUP are always Black and White.

6. Click “Toggle Terrain” if you wish to see images in 3D. Now you can see your model sunk into or below or floating terrain.

7. Click “Place Model” to place your model on Google Earth. Now you can view your model on location you selected in Google Earth.

8. To share your model with others upload it to 3D warehouse.
