After hearing so much about Google earth and its amazing applications, you must be thinking of having it on your own PC. But still there might be quite a few questions and queries popping up in your mind. In order to answer them, here is a list of some frequently asked questions. Hopefully after reading them most of your doubts will vanish.
When are Google earth images clicked? Is there a regular updating of the photographs?
These photographs or images are clicked in the time span of one to three years. Any images clicked thereafter are updated from time to time in the database.
Is the updating of Google earth images done as and when the pictures are received?
These images are clicked either by satellites or at times by aircrafts. The images are clicked sometime during the past three years.
Are all the places in the world covered in the data?
Our earth is covered is full of medium resolution imagery and terrain data. Due to this resolution data, one can see a number of cities, their geographical features, roads and buildings. But it is not possible to show the details of a particular structure e.g. a church. For these features you need to have additional high-resolution imagery and only then can you view a constructed structure in details. A large number of cities in US, UK, Canada and Western Europe are covered under this type of detailed data. In some 38 major urban areas of US, buildings can be seen in their 3D form. One can get a detailed map of roads in Western Europe, UK, US and Canada. And for Canada, US and UK, there is also a facility of Google local search.
In my home the pictures appear blurred. What can be the reason for this?
So that the data viewed by the user is seamless, data of different resolutions are combined. Some of the pictures may look blurry. Google earth provides high-resolution imagery that is greater than 1 meter per pixel. This is enough to provide an aerial view of about 1500 feet. By now the data includes thousands of cities and they are collecting more and more data everyday.
Which computers can run Google earth?
Majority of PCs have 3D graphics capabilities standards. In case your computer is an old one or a notebook computer, it may not have a 3D graphic capability standard. In such a case the computer cannot run Google earth.
What is the graphic card requirement for Google earth?
The performance of Google earth depends largely on the 3D graphic capabilities of any PC. Some of the graphic cards on which Google will show a good performance are ATI, Intel, S3, 3D labs, NVIDIA, Matrox. ATI cards like ATI Xpert, ATI Rage Mobility and ATI 3D Rage are not supported. Intel 3D graphics machine perform better in DirectX than OpenGL version. To go to DirectX go to ‘Start’ and then go to ‘Programs’. Select ‘Google earth’ and say ‘Start Google Earth in DirectX’. For Matrox cards use OpenGL version and for S3 cards use DirectXGoogle, Google earth
