Getting the correct data in Google earth

I want to see the buildings in my vicinity. Can I have a 3D view?

Do you see the layer panel in Google earth? It has all the data points of geographical interest. These points can be displayed on the viewing area. Maps, buildings terrains etc are a part of this. 3D buildings can be viewed in the layer data feature of the Google earth. Currently the Google database contains buildings only in major cities in US. You can view these buildings in the following way. You find the 3D building layer in the dashboard. To turn it on, just check the box next to it. Adjust the viewer till you get a clear picture of the city you want to watch. When you reach an elevation of 10-12,000 feet, you will be able to see the 3D buildings. You current viewing height will be seen on the elevation meter. At first the buildings appear as gray structures. To view more details you need to zoom in. use the tilt and rotate tools, to view the buildings from any angle.

Are the satellite images taken in real time or are they old?

No the satellite images are not real time. The imagery is around one year to three years old. The primary data base is regularly updates with new data.

Sometimes I see blurry images. Why is it so?

You find the Streaming indicator below each Google earth image. If you see that it has been 100% downloaded, you cannot view any data of a resolution more than this. Google earth is working hard to make more imagery available. You can come to know of data additions through the newsletter Sightseer.

Does Google plan to improve the image quality in the future?

Google team updates the database regularly. But it is not possible to announce when the data of a particular area will be updated. Google does not take any orders for data addition. Only when the data providers get new data, the database is updated.

Sometime a high imagery insert shows blurry images. Why is it so?

Google tries to take only the best images. But there are some areas that show images that are blurry or discolored. It can happen that the data provided by the data providers is unclear or not of the required high resolution.

How can one locate the POIs or points of interest?

The points of interest are contained in the layer panel. These may be roads, maps, buildings and even terrains. The following instruction will help you to locate the points of interest. To view any area you have to accordingly adjust the viewer. You can do this by zooming in and out or by increasing the size of the viewer. Incase you do not see the “Layers” you can expand the selection by selecting the “Sidebar” in the “Tools”. If you want to view any sub categories of the POIs, it is possible to expand certain layers. You can select the points of interest in the list. You can also see icon of the specific POI if you have selected one. If a geographical feature does not display an icon, it will display a label.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
