Google Earth and Geography
Google Earth, the super-mapping product has transformed the way we looked at finding locations. The David Rumsey collections of maps, Which date to the 17th century are integrated with advanced digitization technology new software tools from Google. The effect of all this is that the user can now get to know all the historical details as well. Google earth and the National Geographic have teamed up for geographic literacy.
The Geographic awareness campaign has different topic every year this year it is Africa so you can get to know all about the Geographical aspect of Africa. In connection with Geography awareness campaign Google earth provided an interactive quiz, which included brief description of Africa's physical landscapes, information on Africa's animals and conservation, description of modern mapping and geo-spatial technologies all this will really enrich the user for a better awareness.
If anyone intends to use Google earth in teaching Geography in the classroom here are some guidelines.
1. First you have to download the latest 21st November 2006 version of Google earth.
2. You can update your version with Plus or the Google earth Pro which are subscribed but for educational purposes Google provides a free license.
3. You can have a group of students to locate the places by using an atlas such as the Oxford one or the Pearson Longman. And save them for all to use as placemark folder.
4. You should download the sight seeing tours from Google earth.
