Google earth and Shakespeare

Shakespeare had never known anything beyond Europe let alone traveling to far off Continents. This King of English literature and Google earth are now together in the form of places that were quoted in the dramatist’s plays. The Google earth community has got this literature map on its website. Someone who is really interested in literature And would love to share it with the world Google earth would prove to be of immense value. The importance of Google earth for having this Shakespeare map has certainly increased since this would help to increase the already popular dramatist among those who haven’t read his plays. As Google earth has done the same on many occasions like it had provided a mash up for the American mid term polls in the form of the Election guide that helped the American voters during elections. The places that were quoted in Shakespeare’s plays can be crosschecked by using its placemarks in Google earth. Google earth in a way would help to identify the places quoted in Shakespeare’s plays And the authenticity of it can be determined. This endeavor by the literature and Google earth enthusiast is certainly laudable.

In Google earth someone from France has posted about eighty five placemarks for Shakespeare. This has become very popular with users. However the person who posted these placemarks deliberately left out some places and allowed others to add them for themselves. The use of Google earth for this purpose really shows Google earth’s versatility in different uses. In this example technology and literature have met together which very rarely happens. The places that are marked in Google earth would also help to interpret the author’s work in a new light since the physical location and the textual location can be verified. The importance of the description of any place in literature is important since it can also the affect the meaning of the particular text. The eighty-nine placemarks show almost all the places quoted in Shakespeare's plays. The placemarks from Shakespeare’s plays have the icon of Shakespeare himself, which was developed by a member of Google Earth team. The places that are mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays are accompanied with the related play and the scene number. In some plays the place are common.
