Google Earth and World Wind
Google earth, the free virtual globe that can be installed on your computer has transformed many lives. The benefits of using all the versions of Google earth are Unquestionable. The World wind is a geography browser from NASA, it is also capable of three dimensionality. The World Wind like Google earth is also a free software. However the World wind software is available only for Windows operating system. Both are developed programs with amazing features , and both have features that the other lacks. However there are significant differences between these two prodicts. Each program has some advantages over the other.
Google earth is a free source software but is used for commercial purposes so consequently it has a lot of information and it is regularly updated. The use of commercial satellite images by Google earth makes it more professional. In contrast to Google earth’s information World Wind has Scientific Visualization Viewer capabilities that cannot be added on by the user which exactly happens in Google earth. Google earth has a lot of functionalities like 'add-ons' and 'plug-ins'. However the both of these products are complementary to each other therea are subtle differences. NASA’s World Wind is an educational programme allownig the users to discover many of the earth and moon’s places. World Wind uses WMS and MODIS which are inbuilt in the programme. With world wind you can watch recent events in the world, fires and the changing of the weather. Google earth though it is commercial software is free to download and is a platform for everyone to explore locate places around the world. The versions of Google earth have different features but World Wind doesn’t have this feature.
When you have Google earth on your PC the earth is showed by using different photographs at some time and all this is put together to show the earth. The image of the earth is regularly updated for the current picture of the earth. Whereas World Wind has many images of the earth , the blue marble in World Wind shows the Earth through the seasons. At this background however if you want to see the earth in its current position there is no match for Google earth.
