Google Earth Files
As we all know Google earth is a huge data base of different geospatial information and lots of maps. It has all kinds of data suitable for any user from any field. The mapping is very accurately done in Google earth. And the result is that you can see any location on the earth upto minute details. However managing such huge data is a big task in itself. Hence KML is employed to do this job.
KML files can be created with the user interface of Google Earth. To enter raw KML one can use an XML or a simple text editor. You can even compress a KML file which will then become a KMZ archive. These KML or KMZ files can also be can also be shared via email locally in a private net or publicly on a server. The web browsers are displayed in HTML files while the Google earth files are displayed as KML files. You need to just configure the server and share the URL of these KML files. Any person who has installed Google earth will be able to see these files.
KML can be used for various purposes. If you want to identify any location you can mark them with labels. Icons can also be specified. Move the camera in different positions to get a unique view of the locations. You can also make use of image overlays that are attached either to screen or to the ground. If you want to specify the appearance of the feature, then you need to define the styles. With KML it is possible to write the feature description in HTML. This also includes hyperlinks and embedded images. Features can be grouped in the hierarchical way. It is also possible to fetch and update a KML file from a location that is remote or a network that is local. It is possible to display 3 D objects COLLADA textured.
It is also possible to mark Annotations on the Earth. If you have a favorite spot e.g. an old home or your high school etc, you can mark it has your favorite spot. You can add place marks and a small description. You can save these files in File in save in save place. Google maps can also be used to view KML files. Only thing is that this file must be hosted on a web site. Copy and paste the URL in the search box. You can share these files with other people. You just need to click on the “Link to this page” and send them the URL.
You can also access KML files on Google maps on your mobiles. You just have to highlight the spots which you like. This KML file should also be hosted on a web site similar to Google maps on desktop. Note down the URL of your file. You need to enter this URL in the phone juts like nay other business search.
