Google Earth finds treasure
Google Earth has been a major sources o contribution to further opening of the world’s horizons as it has made some amazing discoveries. Recently it found a untouched villa in Rome, that was not thought to have existed. Google Earth is the satellite service developed by KeyHole Inc. and bought by Google in 204. Later the Google team rechristened it as ‘Google Earth’ from its previous name of ‘Earth Viewer. Viewed by millions of people throughout the world Google Earth covers most of the earth’s mass and oceanic area. Except a few islands, it covers the entire world. Its user extends from Chile to Greece and from United States to Indonesia.
Students, teachers, geographers, marine scientists, along with others use Google Earth as their preferred satellite imagery software. Moreover real estate companies, travel and hospitality companies use Google technology for their benefit. Marine scientists and enthusiasts about underwater life and resources also take advantages of the technology created by Google Earth.
Google Earth literally offers limitless possibilities for us to discover our very own planet. The fame and popularity is such that Swiss officials use the satellite imagery based software to track down ‘pot’ fields. Moreover a man discovered buried treasure using Google Earth.
A Los Angeles resident Nathan Smith, a musician by profession was playing around n Google Earth when he came across something that caught his eye. When he zoomed in further and looked properly h though it was the remains of the wrecked ship. The ship had been wreaked at Arkansas Park, in Texas. He also saw an outline shaped like a shoeprint fund in Barkentine Creek. On investigating further he arrived at the conclusion that it was the remains of a Spanish ship wrecked way back n 1822. He also claimed that the ship contained treasure worth $3 Billion as of today. He believed that the ship was still there, along with the treasure.
The U.S maritime law is clear. If the treasure is found at sea, then the treasure is given to the person who found it. However, if the treasure is on land, the owner of the land gets to keep the treasure if at all, there is any. Contradictory to the Atlantis rumor, Nathan Smith has found many believers in his ‘treasure’ story. Nathan even went to the actual spot a he flew from California to Texas. He brought metal detectors to the area and was really excited when the detector responded.
The main problem arousing in this situation is that, the ‘rumored’ treasure is on private land, a private ranch to be specific, owned by the O’Conner’s. The owners of the ranch have refused to let Nathan and his teams dig in their private property. Mr. O’Conner told the media that there was evidence of the wreaked ship and/or of the treasure and he would not allow anyone to ruin their property unnecessarily. The court case is being fought in the High Court in Houston, Texas. The state of Texas has announced that any treasure if found, would belong to the state. Google Earth has been restricted to show images about this find. We will all have to wait for a few months to find to outcome.
