Google Earth My Maps

i)You need to mark the starting point for your maps. You can do this by placing a place-mark for the starting point. Creating a place-mark is very easy. For this, take your cursor to the appropriate position and then click over there to place the place-mark at that point. If you are not satisfied with its position, you can press escape to cancel it.

j)After placing the place-mark at the desired place, you can add a suitable title and description for it. This is a very important part of creating a place-mark. You should give a good title and description to your place-mark so that the viewers will be able to understand it easily.

k)When you complete the above-mentioned steps, your place-mark will be created. Each place-mark is identified by the icon that the creator chooses for it. You can change the icon for your place-mark anytime you want. This can be done by clicking on the icon, which you can see in the top right corner of the window that displays information.

l)Several types of icons are available to choose from. You can even choose to add your own custom icon. For example, you can add the logo of your organization, etc. For doing so, click on the option to add an icon to the maps. Then enter the URL to the custom icon which you want to add.

m)Then click “OK” to save that icon for your place-mark or click “Cancel” to cancel it.

Some useful tips

a)You can also change the position of any place-mark on your map. For this, just click on the place-mark and then drag it to the position, which you want it to be at, and then release it over there. The place-mark will be placed at that point. This you can do only with your own maps, not anybody else’s maps.

b)You can edit the title and description of your place-mark any time you want. For this just click on the place-mark and this will open up the information window. In this window, you will see the title and description, which you can edit.

c)Creating paths or marking lines on your maps

a)First of all, click on the icon for adding lines. When you click on that icon, your cursor will change to a cross shaped marker with which you can draw lines.

b)Then press and hold the left button of your mouse and drag the cursor to mark the path or line, which you want. If something goes wrong or you want to cancel that path or line, just press the escape key.

c)While drawing the path or line, click at each point of your path or line.

d)To stop drawing the path or line you should double click at the end point. Any point where you double click will become the endpoint of your path or line.

e)Just as you add title and description after you create a place-mark, you can add title and description to the path or line that you have marked on your map.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
