Google Earth with its new version
Google Earth released a new version Google Earth 5.0 on Monday 2nd February 2009. Many features were added to this new version. Some of them are as follows: ocean, recorded tours, historical imagery, mars and so on. Developers have tried to make it more interesting and user friendly.
What is Google Earth?
Google earth is a virtual globe. It uses 3d images, aerial photography, and satellite views to display earth and other planet’s different views and maps. This software was first created by KEYHOLE, INC. a software development company which was later taken over by Google in 2004. With the help of Google earth one can tour many planets like Venus, Mars, and Moon and all that. Google earth is very user friendly software which feature many international languages like Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Hindi, French, German, Italian, Thai, Russian, Romanian, Turkish etc. the list includes 37 languages.
Google earth also features 3D images of many historical structures like Taj Mahal and Great Wall of China. These images are very detailed. One can zoom in out of them. They also feature guided tours. With the help of this feature one can virtually visit these great monuments without leaving home. Google earth is available in 3 different versions namely Google earth a free version, Google Earth Plus an advanced version with additional features like GPS integration, higher resolution printing, customer support via e-mails available at $20 annual subscription fee, and the 3rd version Google Earth Pro which is business oriented having additional features to Google Earth plus like movie making, GIS data importer & advanced printing modulus is available at $400 annual fee. Google Earth can run on different operating systems like Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Linux and Mac OS X & Free BSD. It is also available online for Firefox, IE6 & IE7. One can even operate them on iPhone OS.
Ocean: This feature allows users to view the surface of the ocean and various layers and observe 3D bathymetry beneath the waves. It also contains information from leading scientists and oceanographers. This feature will also help in raising awareness about the world’s oceans and some of the environment related issues like rapidly melting ice at the poles, overfishing and other man made environmental threats.
Historical imagery: With the help of this feature, you can go back in the past and view how any structure changes over the years or aerial photography of cities from decades ago. For example you can see famous Bird’s Nest Stadium of Beijing under construction of various stages.
Mars: this new features is especially dedicated to planet mars. You can see various new added features with annotations, 3D imagery, photos and so on.
Recorded tours: Now any one can make recorded tour with the help of this feature. For example Google had Jimmy Buffets tour concert.
With these added new features, Google earth has become more users friendly and interesting. Though there are many virtual globes available in market Google earth is the most advanced and most recognized software.
