Google’s ’see the world’
The Google team held an exclusive interview with Dianne smith, a teacher at Wooster High school, Ohio. When asked how she teaches Geography to her students, she smiled and said that every student of this class actually flies to the place and studies it extensively. We were wondering whether to call the tax department, but seeing the look on our faces Dainne smiled again and told us that she was one of the earliest adopters of our technology, Google Earth.
Dianne told us that when her students study about the Grand Canyon, they virtually fly there and study it in detail. Our best experience so far is the visit to Niagara Fall, Sally Key a student told us. Google Earth has proved to be extremely beneficial for us. It is free, is available on both Mac and PC and takes only a few minutes to download.
With a magnification tool powerful enough to complete one continuous zoom from an altitude of 38,000 miles to as low as 25 feet,, it's a practically limitless teaching tool – especially for schools having internet connections. Google can teach the students a lot about Geography, history and topography. Mapping a area anywhere in the world students can type the name on Google Earth to search for the area. For example you type The Pyramids of Cairo, watch how the world spins, and Egypt comes into focus.
Google Earth is literal treasure trove for knowledge seeking students. UNESCO data, metrology information, current events, transport systems etc. To name a few topics and creates layers which can be exclusively studied. It lets kids be creative and learn about the planet we live in. It titillates them to be inquisitive and resourceful, skills that are very necessary for their future.
Scanning South America, you suddenly come huge portions of trees, and the next second you are searching through the Amazon, and learning more about the animal’s inhabitation there. But that's international. Google Earth also lets the students explore their own city or town or even their own backyard. Students have the flexibility of zooming in and out and inspecting the areas closely.
Almost every academic subject has a connection to geography. If you were teaching literature you won't have the students just have the students write essays about what they'd read would you. The user has the flexibility to lets her students create placemarks, maybe make an audiovisual tour of where the events took place, to give them some concreteness. Where did these Civil War battles take place? What distinguished Northern geography from the South? Google Earth always makes studies easy and interesting.
For students who have weak verbal skills, there is help at hand. Google Earth uses its satellite visual technology to make studies understandable for such students. Moreover, Google Earth is not the information from years ago as of most textbooks. Google Earth is a big hit with teachers and students alike. Google Earth is a satellite imagery based satellite technology developed at the heart of Google INC. At USA.
