Importing data in Google earth

The Google earth has become popular in a short time. And why should it not be? After all it is meant for each and every type of user. From a professional engineer to a layman everyone can enjoy the benefits of Google earth. It can be used in schools and architecture colleges and also to plan the countries security. Google earth has also been used for commercial purposes. The data is well organized and easily available. We will now see how data is imported in Google earth. As a user we need to be aware of this aspect too.

Basically geographical data has to be included in Google earth. Due to this data transfer we can watch the images that have been imported. Google earth gets data in two forms. One is the Vector data and the other is the Imagery data. Lines points paths and polygons are included in Vector data. To show a particular location in an area the point data is used. This can be a famous monument or the city square. The roads and streets are shown with the help of the path and the line data. One can even know the boundaries of a region. If you want to view water bodies like oceans, ponds etc or any parcel data, polygons are employed. Some third party providers like ESRI also supply data to Google earth.

The data that is imported can be used as it is or even edited. You can modify its content or the way it looks. This is done just like we edit the folders and place marks. KML data can be configured with the help of Style Templates. The user can view this data in a time wise sequence. The second type of data that is mentioned is the imagery data. Satellite maps and topographical maps, all come under imagery data. These maps can be imported in Google earth. Another good thing about data importing is that it is possible to cast this data over the base imagery. Thereafter it can be viewed in a three dimensional structure. However you should make sure that the basic GIS data is in a proper structure and form. You should also make a note that only those using Google earth EC and Google earth pro are able to use the GIS imagery transfer feature. Vector data like polygons, paths, points and lines are very important for a proper presentation of the imported data.

It is possible for a user to import GIS data on Google earth. For successful importing please follow these steps. The user can drag and drop his data files in Google earth. The user should first point the file he/she wishes to import. This file may be located on his machine or on any network server. Then he/she should drag it and drop it in the Google earth three-dimensional viewer. He/she can either select the "Open" or the "Import" option in the "File" menu. Thus the data gets imported in Google earth.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
