How to use the Movie Maker?

Google Earth provides the option of Movie Maker to record and save 3D images in the form of movie files. Google Earth provides the option of saving video recordings and video clips in the movie file format. With the movie maker the user can record a short movie on a property and then present it even without the use of Google Earth. The user can save the file and then make it available on web site, in e-mails or for other forms of presentations

Which movie file formats does the Movie Maker support?

The Movie Maker supports three types of movie files that are as follows:

1. Windows Media Video (WMV): The WMV is an output file format and is used mainly for presentations. It is used in a compressed and optimized format. When files are further configured they provide even better visuals.

2. Audio Video Interleave (AVI): The AVI format enables movie creation in an uncompressed format. Hence the size of the files becomes extremely large. Hence, a conventional movie player cannot play back the recording. AVI format is useful mainly for editing movie clips.

3. Image Stream (JPG): The JPG format is useful for converting movies into images of variable or standard length. With this format the speed of the images can be controlled and they can be even artificially edited.

4. QuickTime: QuickTime is also necessary for capturing movies

What are the quality levels produced by the Movie Maker?

There are two types of qualities that the Movie Maker produces. They are as follows:

1. Standard quality movie (real time): The standard quality movie option helps the user to regulate the appearance of the icons and overlays in the movie recording process.

2. High quality movie (tour mode only): This option provides the best quality of recording for the user. Hence, this is the most preferred option for displaying the movie on a large screen. This option allows each frame to be first downloaded to Google Earth and then records it. This process ensures that the image quality is maximized even if the time required for recording is more

How to update the movie player?

The movie player must be upgraded with the latest softwares in order to get the best quality movies. It is important for the users to have the most modern versions of the Windows Media Player or Apple QuickTime installed in their computers. A minimum of Windows Media Player 9 is required

What are the steps involved in recording movies

The following steps are involved in the process of movie recording:

1. The Movie Maker option is located in the Tools menu. Selecting the Movie Maker would provide a dialogue box.

2. The next step is to select the compression format for the movie. The type of format can be selected from Supported Compression Formats selector. Normally, users select the Windows Media Video or QuickTime for compressing the movie. For selecting formats apart from these two, the user will have to select the type from the ‘Advanced’ checkbox.

3. The next step is to ascertain the movie quality. He must now select high quality or standard quality for maintaining the quality.

4. After ascertaining the quality, it is necessary to select the frames per second or FPS for the movie according to the requirement of the user.
