Map controls to view roads, terrain, buildings, borders and models
Google earth searches the maps, terrains, buildings, etc with the satellite imagery. It can make you view all the details of the location you are interested in. All the geographical data related to any part of the globe can be viewed with Google earth. You can search for your own house, schools, buildings, parks, a picnic spot, a hotel etc by making use of Google maps. Now when you use any software application you should be aware of all the software skills that are essential to use that software application. This is because that application can have a lot many features in it that can help you to get the detailed knowledge of a particular location but you may not be capable of taking all the advantage of it.
Roads: There is feature called as road layer in Google maps. It displays the major highways, roads, streets, etc. you can expand the layer folder and control the display of some international roads. Now the information that is displayed on the screen depends on the area you are viewing. For example if you are viewing a large area at instant then you can view only the major highways and not the small streets, or small roads. Also you will not be able to view the detailed information related to it. To obtain all the details you have to increase the resolution or in other words you can increase the zoom level of the map. This can result in displaying small areas of your interest.
Terrain: This is another added layer in the Google maps known as the terrain layer. This layer can help you to get a 3D view of mountains, terrains, etc. It shows the elevation of a particular region. This feature is applicable only to the natural geographic forms and is not applicable to the 3D buildings. There is a factor called as the elevation exaggeration value. This value gives you the desired resolution. This value ranges from 1 to 3. The user has to adjust this value according to his need.
Borders: The coastlines, the international borders, the borders of the state, the borders of the provinces, the country borders are of great interest. The Google maps can provide you with the detailed information of the borders. There is a border feature present in Google maps. If you turn this feature ON you can view the desired boundary lines. In this case also the number of borders shown depends on the resolution at which you are viewing that particular region. If you are viewing a large area than only the major borders will be available. In case you are viewing a small area with a high resolution than you can view the major details.
3D buildings. The Google Earth database includes the satellite image of 3D buildings. To make this view possible you have to turn ON the 3D view feature from the layer tab. The type of view in this case also is dependent on the area under view. A large area will give a less clear view. When you will view a small area you will get a much clear view. There are some big buildings that can be viewed from a height but some small buildings are to be viewed with a greater resolution.
