Marking places panel in Google Earth

When you start Google Earth for the first time, My Places folder in Places panel is empty. My places folder is used to hold places that you wish to save. Every item that is located in my places folder is saved for the coming Google Earth sessions. If you do not save or move the items to My places folder then these items are not available in next Google Earth session even if you saved them in temporary places folder. You can use places panel to organize and save places that you frequently visit.

Creating new placemark: Follow these instructions for adding new placemark to a place in viewer

1] Position 3D viewer to cover the spot that you wish to placemark. You should consider zooming into best viewing level for desired location. Select any one of the methods given below

a] Choose placemarks from add menu

b] Click on placemark icon that is on the toolbar menu, which is at the top of screen

The new placemark dialog becomes visible and new placemark icon is in the viewer. Now position the placemark. For doing this, you need to position the mouse cursor on placemark until cursor changes to pointing finger. Now drag it to desired location. The mouse cursor then changes to finger pointing icon indicating that you can freely move the placemark. It is also possible to lock placemark position as well as you can set advanced coordinates for placemark position.

2] Click on OK button to apply information that you want to enter in placemark dialog box. Your placemark will appear in 3D viewer and also as an entry in selected folder. Once you have saved this placemark, you can change its properties and position.

Saving Point of interest: You can always save any POI displayed in 3D viewer to My places folder by simply right clicking on placemark that is in the viewer and then choosing save to my places from pop up menu.

Also, you can use copy feature by doing the following:

1] Right click on POI and then choose copy from pop-up menu.

2] Open My places folder for displaying destination folder for POI

3] Position your mouse cursor over desired folder.

4] Right click and then choose paste option from pop up menu. The POI will appear in location that you have selected.

Sharing a Placemark: After creating a placemark, it is possible to share it with your friends on Google Earth Community BBS website. For doing this, you have to right click on placemark and then select Share/Post. Google Earth community posting wizard will appear in browser window at the bottom of the screen. You need to follow a few instructions to post the information.

Saving search results: After performing a search, a results panel will appear below search button. Each and every search term that you will enter is nothing but the title of the folder containing top ten results. You can save your search results for future GE sessions in following ways:

1] Drag and then drop any search result item from search results panel to a folder that is within places panel. Now release the item and place it in new location.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
