Measure distances in Google Earth

The program Google Earth is a wonderful program application. With the help of this program, you are not only able to view several places but measure distances between two places, as well. It also offers you a number of tools, which you can use to estimate sizes and calculate distances. You are able to access different tools depending on the version of Google Earth, which you are using. Measuring with polygon or circle radius is a wonderful Google Earth tool. Measuring with path is another fabulous tool of Google Earth program.

By using Google Earth’s Ruler window, you can measure length, area and circumference. In order to do this, you first need to position the imagery, which you want to measure in a 3-Dimensional viewer. You also need to ensure that you are viewing the planet earth from top to down. Lengths are measured making use of latitude coordinates. Now you need to choose Ruler by going into tools menu. When you will choose this option ruler, there appears a new dialog box. Move this dialog box and place it on the screen in a way that it will not barricade 3-Dimensional viewer.

The next step is to select the kind of shape, which you want to measure with. Google Earth’s all versions easily calculate with path. Google Earth Pro is also useful to measure the distance by making use of a polygon. Now you have to select unit of measure so that you can calculate area, length and radius. The Final step is to click on a 3-Dimensional viewer to set starting point of shape. Now constantly click on it, till the shape or a path calculates that region. For circle, you must click on the centre point. After this, you need to drag to define that circle. A red dot indicates the beginning point of shape.

A yellow line or shape connects with it as you move your mouse slowly. An additional click also adds new line to the shape. Overall units for a shape are defined already in a dialog box of ruler. You are also able to choose any unit to measure the distance. When you are calculating the length and area, you are able to modify the shape and even reposition the viewer. Units included in Google Earth are feet, centimeters, meters and inches. You can measure the area in square mts, feet and kms. You can even clear the list of measuring shapes from the viewer of Google Earth just by clicking on Clear All Button option, which is located in a Ruler dialog box. When you are making use of measuring mode, mouse is immobilized by default.

Nevertheless, mouse can be enabled simply by checking the mouse navigation checkbox. If your mouse is enabled, mouse measuring as well as navigation works at the same time. You are also able to click and even hold to add a new point. Google Earth user can also click and drag to move our planet earth. If you want to remove any of the point from an area shape, you first need to choose a point and then press backspace key.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
