Saving and deleting places data in Google Earth

In the program Google Earth, users can easily save entire folder, shapes and location marks into their machine’s hard drive. The Placemark folder is saved in the format of KMZ file that can be opened at any time. You want to save the data for several reasons. By saving the data, you can share it with other Google Earth users. It is also possible for you to email shape, folder and Placemark to other Google Earth users within this program. Any KMZ file, which is placed on your computer, can be sent through email to other users of Google Earth. Furthermore, you are also able to post KMZ files in Google Earth BBS from where other users of this program can see the data. Users can even serve the KMZ file on their web server.

There are several places in the folder of “MY Places”. Every time, you open this program, places data is processed during the start up, although it is off in 3-Dimensional viewer. Having a lot of information in My Places folder can hamper the performance of this program depending on your machine. When you save folders into your hard drive, the performance of the program Google Earth is improved. Once the data is saved into your disk, you are also able to delete that data from “My Places” folder. You can open your saved data at any time.

Simply by right clicking on the item, you can easily save placemarls, shapes and entire folders. By using file dialog box, you can save folder or a Placemark to your computer. You can even give a name to the new file and the click on save option in dialog box. The folder or a Placemark is saved to the location along with .kmz extension. Numerous ways are there to remove places data. You can easily delete data from Places Panel. You just need to right click on a folder called Placemark in places panel and then select the option called delete from the pop-up menu. This will delete the item. If the item is in Temporary Places then it will not be visible when the next time you will use this program.

When the item is accurately saved, then you are able to open the saved data whenever you want. Or else, the item is deleted permanently. You just need to select the item and then press on delete key. There appears a confirmation dialog box and asks whether to delete the item or not. You just need to click on remove the item option from places panel. By right clicking on the folder and then selecting the delete contents from Pop-up menu to delete the Placemark. After this you need to click on “yes” button of confirmation dialog box.

All the contents of a folder are removed including its subfolders. Another way of deleting the content is right clicking on item from places panel and the select cut from pop-up menu. The item is deleted from the listing but it is copied to clip board. Later you are able to paste it to another location.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
