Setting the view and changing labels in Google Earth

Setting the View: When a new placemark is created, view for that particular placemark is set automatically to current view. However, you can modify the view for a placemark and then save the view so that every visit to that placemark displays the saved view. For this, you will have to specify a orientation around a place and then set the orientation.

For instance after you view a place, you may find a position from where you would like to view, such as a particular tilt angle. Rather than default north south, which is an overhead point of a particular location, you can specify the position of your choice whenever you visit.

Applying for a new view: First, position your 3D viewer at a viewing direction that you desire, and then select any one of the options given below:

Right click on the item that is in your list view and then choose snapshot view from pop up menu. The current view that is inside the 3D viewer is set as view for selected folder or placemark. You can then examine actual settings for your view by simply editing the folder or placemark and then click on view.

Edit the folder or placemark: Right click on your icon or folder and then choose properties from pop-up menu. You should then click on view tab in Edit dialog box. Current values of the view are shown. When you are ready for setting the view, click on 'snapshot current view' button. You can also manually enter the settings. Click on OK button to see changes in 3D viewer.

Returning to Top Down View (Default): Right click on the icon or folder and then select edit from pop up menu. You will have to click on view tab in Edit dialog box. Then click the reset view button. You will find that the view of the selected item is updated to default orientation.

Changing Labels: When you edit or create a folder or a placemark, you can modify the label of that item by typing the desired text in Name field. By choosing the color tab, style in Edit placemark dialog box, it is possible to change the features of a label mentioned below:

Color: For setting the color of a label in Google Earth, you will have to click on color swatch and then select a color with the help of standard color selector. It is also possible to define your own colors or preset colors in many ways. After selecting a color, label updates before edit dialog box closes, so that you can easily see your changes.

Size: For changing the display size of the label, you will have to type a value in scale button and then make use of the slider for adjusting size of your label. The scale value limit for an icon is four pixels.

Opacity: The opacity setting indicates how transparent your label is relative to imagery that is beneath it. Opacity is 100% by default, which means it obscures any imagery that is beneath it.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
