Similes of Google Earth
Google Earth is generally used to view the earth in digital form. To view the Earth in digital form we need images of the locations of the earth. These images are the digital images that are processed. They include mainly of the mountains, the terrains, the 3 Dimensional building, the Highways, the street roads, etc.
One may be curious to know about how are these images uploaded?? Where do all these images come from?? Why are some images clear?? Why some are blurred?? How are these images processed??? And so on…
It is commonly believed that all the images that are up loaded on Google earth are captured from the satellites. The fact is true that the images are taken from the satellites but many a times these images are not up to the mark. So sometimes the images are taken from the air planes or the hot air balloons.
There are a number of sources that are used by Google Earth in order to upload the perfect image. Sometimes images are captured from the kites. In case of the air planes they attach the Camera to the belly of the air planes.
The images of Google Earth are captured from a height of 15,000 to 30,000 feet above the surface of the earth. There are overlapped images of Google Earth in some cases. The overlapped images are the images that are taken in parallel to the same plane and overlap with the earlier image.
The overlapped images also play an important role in the processing stage for the images in Google Earth. The information if lost in one of the images are recovered from the overlapped image of the same area. The quality of the final image is increased to a greater extent due to the overlapped images.
There are a number of problems that come along the way there are some constraints while taking images of the earth surface. This is generally because of the uneven surface of the earth. The uneven surface of the earth gives distorted images. But the overlapped images can be of great importance in case of the distorted images also.
Obtaining the images from different sources is not the only thing that is to be done. They are to be processed further. The images from the various sources are gathered at one place. Out of these the best images are selected. The selected image is then processed. Processing of the image includes scanning of images, converting them to digital form. After this they are up loaded on the Google Earth.
Processing improves the quality of the images further. The images are linked to the information and the total set of images and data are then uploaded to Google Earth. The final image that is observed includes image as well as the total information related to the image. The digital form of the image is further processed for color balancing, warping, etc. The resolution of the scanner is adjusted to about 1800 dots per inch.
Apart from this Google Earth also includes the real time images of the earth quakes, volcanoes, or the real time images of any natural calamities like the flood, drought, the Tsunami, etc. Thus Google Earth is more of the images that is the similes, than the other features.
