The KMZ file on your computer can be converted into a network link and can be made available to all other end users!!!
Recently, I came across a fantastic website that offered yet another insight into the wonderful uses to which the Google Earth software application can be put to. The website gave a network link to a Google Earth KML file.
All those who have no idea what a network link to a Google Earth KML file means, here is some basic information about the topic. The default file of the Google Earth software application is the KML file. Another type of file that is commonly found on the internet is the KMZ file which is nothing but a zipped KML file. These files can be sent to other end users of the Google Earth software application just as all other files are sent. Just as the Microsoft Office document is sent as an attachment to another person who downloads and views the same in the MS Word software application, in the same way, the KML file can be sent as an attachment to any other end user of the Google Earth software application. Just as a person who does not have access to MS Word software application will not be able to view the document, in the same way, an individual who does not have access to the Google Earth software application will not be able to view the KML file. The KML file can be sent as an attachment or can be made available as a network link. What does the network link imply?? What the network link implies is that the KML file is stored on any web server that can be accessed from the internet and the link to that network resource (i.e. the resource available on the network) is placed in many different websites. All the surfer of the web has to do is click on the link to be taken to the Google Earth KML file. Once the file is clicked, the web browser will ask whether the end user desires to open the file or download the same on to the hard disk of the computer. If the file is downloaded, the end user will have access to the file in the future as well. However, if the end user decides to open the file directly into the Google Earth software application, the Google Earth software application will load up and the view in the KML file shall be visible to the end user of the Google Earth software application on his own computer.
Once the end user has seen what the Google Earth software application’s KML file is all about, he has the option of either saving the contents of the KML file in the My Places folder in the Google Earth software application or has the option of storing it in the temporary places folder alone. If the file is stored in the temporary places folder, the same will be deleted when the Google Earth software application is closed. Of course, the end user will be asked for confirmation before the contents of the KML file is deleted.
