The side bar of Google Earth offers easy access to the ‘layers’ feature in the software application!!!
The side bar of the Google Earth software application consists of three components. The first one, as we all know, is the search feature. The second component is the Places feature where the end user of the Google Earth software application can access the My Places folder and can add places to the temporary folder if they would not be required after the session of the Google Earth software application ends. The third component of the side bar of the Google Earth software application is the layers feature. The layers feature is the most important feature in the Google Earth software application. The layers feature can be likened to the Extension feature in the Firefox web browsing software application. The layers feature is the feature in the Google Earth software application that converts the Google Earth software application into a dynamic software application. As the very name of the feature suggest, this feature enables the end user to add layers to the three dimensional representation of the earth in front of the end user of the Google Earth software application. Since the earth is spherical, any layer over the virtual representation of the earth will be the same as it being a part of the earth itself. For example, if we make use of a layer that indicates the name of each and every country in the world by placing a name tag over the country, the point whether the name tag is added as a separate layer or is an integral part of the Google Earth software application is irrelevant as far as the experience of the end user is concerned.
This is what the developers of the Google Earth software application have taken advantage of. By default, the Google Earth software application does not indicate the name of roads and streets in the cities. All it does is show images of the roads and street as seen from the satellite in space. It is for the end user to keep track of the name of the roads and streets. However, the same Google Earth software application offers a layer named the ‘Road’ layer. If this layer is activated, the Google Earth software application will clearly indicate the name of all the roads and streets that have been input in the database of the Google Earth software application. That is to say, if the names of all the roads in New York has been input into the servers of the Google Earth software application, then all the roads and streets in New York will be indicated by their names by the Google Earth software application in the event the end user selects the ‘Road’ Layer in the Google Earth software application. The end user of the Google Earth software application can select the layer to be super imposed over the virtual representation of the earth by making use of the layers feature in the side bar of the Google Earth software application. This feature is a very useful feature. All the facets of this feature shall be explained further.
