What’s Google Up To?

Here’s some exciting news! According to ZDNet, Google purchased three new domains this Monday: googleimagetagger.com, .net and .org. What does this mean exactly? Well, according to ZD Net’s Garett Rogers’s research it goes like this: He searched “image tagger” online and found a piece of software from Earthmate.com that takes information recorded from a GPS receiver and compares it with the timestamp on pictures to display where images were taken on a map. So In theory this could be something that Google could do with Google Earth/Maps, a GPS receiver and Picasa? That would be completely amazing. The other possibility, which was the first thing I thought of when I saw those domain names, is just a more Flickr-like, social networking site-esque way to tag your photos or someone else’s. I guess we shall soon see…

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
