Google Earth FAQ’s

Why are images blurry?

By default, detailed flyover images are disabled, due to load time and file size considerations. Basically there are 2 sets of flyover images that differ in quality. Enable the set and you will see clear images.

Why my monitor screen is showing the message “Invalid Image format” when the flyover image is being loaded?

The message “Invalid image format” might mislead you. Before displaying the image, Google Earth checks your system resources and available disk space in the system's memory caches. If the settings of your computer do not allow Google Earth to load all this information, then Google Earth sends a message that you are trying to load an image that has an “Invalid Image Format”. To fix this problem, ensure that your computer meets all system requirements.

In Google Earth, is it possible to change Memory cache settings?

To best view the Flyover photos of Campus in Google Earth, you can easily change memory cache settings in Google Earth c application. Before you adjust these settings, ensure that your machine meets all the system requirements.

1] Open Google Earth application

2] In the application, click the Tools menu

3] Under Tools menu, select options

4] In Google Earth options dialog, click 'Cache tab'

5] The memory cache size should be minimum half of system memory or total RAM. For instance, if total RAM in your computer is equivalent to 512 MB, then you will have to enter 256 MB in memory cache size field

6] Set disk cache size to 1024 MB.

7] Click clear memory cache button

8] Click clear disk cache button

9] Click on apply settings

10] Click OK

Why does my monitor screen flicker when loading a flyover image?

This is because; you may have installed an older release of Google Earth version 4 or an old version of Google Earth application. For downloading the latest release of version 4, you will have to visit the official website of Google Earth. If you still experience flickering while loading flyover photos, you should follow “How to change my Memory Cache settings in Google Earth” guide for adjusting the amount of resources that Google Earth software has to work with.

Which version of Google Earth software should I install on my computer?

It is recommended that you install the recent version of Google Earth i.e. the beta version 4. Although this latest version is called as “Beta” software, which means all the features are included but some bugs may still be present in the program, it has been found that this version is remarkably bug free. Why many recommend this version is because it is better at showing KML data file.

Will Google Earth not operate, if your computer does not meet the recommended system requirements?

Google Earth application will run even if the recommended system requirements are not met by your computer. The problem is that you won't be able to access all features in Google Earth. A 3D graphics card is a must otherwise, it will not be possible for you to view 3D satellite imagery.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
