How to Import GPS Data into Google Earth?
Using a GPX file is very good thing to import data. It is because, you just need to drag and drop into Google Earth. However, even though you do not have this GPX file you can import data into Google earth.
You can also use Garman USB device and windows computer. So first you need to install Garmin USB driver from the CD. This USB CD comes with GPS device when you purchase it. Or you can also download this driver from Garmin website too. Without Garmin user can not download the data.
After installing or downloading USB driver on your computer connect GPS device to your computer while running Google Earth website. If you connect it while Google earth is offline, the device will not run properly. It is because, the device unable to connect the data when you start Google Earth.
Either USB cable or a serial cable can be used. This cable type depends upon thee device model. Such cables will get you with the device when you buy or purchased from authorized shoppers or dealers.
After connecting device or cable turn on the GPS device. Once the device is activated or turned on you can start next steps. There is no need to wait for satellite connection. Without connection you can start your next task.
A small GPS box will be appeared as soon as the device is activated. You will see two options: Historical and Realtime. There are number of topics under Historical topics such as Device, Import, and Options. These topics also display subtypes under each topics. For example, Garmin and Magellan are under the Device topic while Import topic contains Waypoints, Tracks, and Routes.
Choose the proper device which you are using on your computer for importing the data. Then select the types of data, which you want import under the Import menu. Waypoints, Tracks, Routes these are the options under the Import menu.
Select the drawing menu under the Options menu. There are almost thee options. They are Draw icons at track and route points, Draw lines for tracks and routes, and Adjust altitudes to ground height.
You can check any icon (menu). The menu (icon) will display on the 3D viewer for every route or track recorded by the GPS device when you will check draw icons at track and route points.
Each icon has its won role and function in the device. For example if you want to check Draw lines for tracks and routes then this icon draws each GPS route and track like a solid line. Adjust altitude to ground height allows to the check the box and adjusts all recorded points to ground level.
For instance, this icon will take all recorded points to ground level while the importing the data will be taken on foot, bike, or car. Keep in mind, if you record tracks or data while flying or hang gliding the option will not be selected and such points will be appeared as above-ground points.
Finally click OK tab that is in confirmation dialog box when you or GPS data finished loading into Google Earth.
