Where to place SketchUp model in the Google Earth?

Model placing is one of the common problems in the SketchUp. Before placing a model in Google Earth, you have to be sure that whether u clear all requirements of Google Earth. It is very important while placing model in the Google earth. If you placed a model carelessly you will get some troubleshooting in Google earth. It could be look distorted.

Some precautions must be taken while you place your model in Google earth. Turn on Google Earth Terrain Option for getting an exact idea of earth floor before placing going to place a SketchUp model. You should always start Google earth in direct X mode for clear graphics. Then you have to set Earth’s elevation exaggeration at optimum level.

You also have to set earth’s viewing area at largest possible view to improve terrain image clarity that you will import for your model in SketchUp. In Google earth maximum Zoom effect and fly close can be used to select favorite locations. Click on ‘get Current View’, tab in SketchUp to take a snap shot of your selected terrain.

Now create your 3D model on this terrain. Here you need to be careful, if your terrain has a slope then you have to add basement for plain surface to place your model. When you will finish model, click on ‘Toggle View’ button. Pressing this button your 3D model will have 3D view, where you can notice whether the terrain has any slope.

You will also get to know whether your model has sunk into or it is floating on a terrain. If it is so, you can correct immediately to avoid further ugliness. You can correct this situation using Move/copy tool. This tool will help you to raise or to lower your model to place it correctly on terrain. Analyze your model from all direction and do necessary changes to position your model correctly on terrain.

Once you done with all corrections, your model is now ready to place in Google Earth. In Sketch-Up, use ‘Place Model’ button to put your model in Google Earth. Now in Google Earth view your 3D model on a location from where you have imported terrain. If you want to share your model with your friends and groups simply upload that model to 3D warehouse.

What is the sharing process of 3D models in the Google Earth

As you can create 3D model in Google Sketch-Up you can also share that model through 3D warehouse using Google Sketch-Up with other Google Earth user’s. After creating your 3D model in Google Sketch-Up, through file menu choose 3D warehouse link.

To access 3D warehouse contents you have to log in using your Google Account. After logging in to 3D warehouse, on ‘Upload model’ page, describe your model. You can also include related sources, websites, and other extra information about your model. On this page, you can add information like category of your model. Whether it is imagery, real, historical significance, or planned.
