3D Virtual Earth
Microsoft has taken efforts t launch the 3D Virtual Earth that is a new version of the mapping application. It allows its users to fly via the 3-dimensional models of the cities directly from their web browsers that are complete with the virtual billboards.
The basic idea involved here is that you can type your query in the Windows Live Search and here click on the tab showing “maps”. This will bring the results in a local context and show you the 2-dimensional bird’s eye and aerial imagery as well as the 3-dimensional models provided by the Virtual Earth. This service is balanced to compete with Google Earth that is an application complementing the search giant’s online mapping service. It has brought the Virtual world very close to the physical world.
The 3D Virtual Earth makes use of the photographs for creating realistic and textured buildings. It has developed such cameras that it uses for capturing the images in house and to create an algorithmic program for making the three dimensional models. Due to the level of details as offered by the Virtual Earth, Microsoft has launched the product supporting to only 15 cities. These cities include San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Jose, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Boston, Seattle, Houston, Detroit, etc.
However, everything cannot be realistic. Virtual billboards are put by the Microsoft in the 3D cities that it creates. This allows the company to sell it’s advertise in these virtual world directly. For instance, a Fox is advertised by the bill board above the AMC Lowes cinema in San Francisco. Microsoft could accomplish this technology it acquired form the in game advertising company massive. Microsoft is planning to add newer cities to the service continually and thus, expand the Virtual Earth to many different countries.
As the Virtual Earth platform is offered on the web by using the World Wide Web Consortium standards; the service is believed to be doubtful for the operating system. The hardware requirements are needed for hosting you’re application. It basically consists of the two main interfaces: MapPoint web service API by using the SOAP XML for communicating with the other applications and the Virtual Earth Map Control allows its users to make a request through the Java script to an AJAX map object.
The software requirements for the Virtual Earth map control include possessing a computer having an internet connection, internet explorer 5.5 or higher than that on the Microsoft Windows. The Virtual Earth map control SDK (Software Development Kit) offers the different how to topics to get started with the map controls as well as programming references for the Virtual Earth. Use this control effectively for building your own websites with the help of the Virtual Earth maps.
You can download it form the self extracting ZIP file. There run the Virtual Earth SDK50.exe for extracting the SDK. Select a location for installing it. After completing the installation successively, the Virtual Earth SDK opens automatically and thus, you can get started on it.
