A thousand places to see, On your Desktop!!
The Live search maps section of Virtual Earth was updated on an enormous scale in March this year. And Microsoft defined enormous with a data of 21 TB. This means that Microsoft has added information regarding thousands of kilometers that were unknown or little known till now. While browsing there are chances that one may bump into a name that will sound alien and surprise part will be to know that its just on the opposite side of the globe. Microsoft earth is known to have revealed secrets about the neighborhoods. It has provided information on many mystery locations that people would have never known. And now comes this new addition that will tell you about the whole planet that would have been a mystery otherwise.
The update covers nearly all the countries on this planet. And when it comes to the name of the countries one would come across a lot of new names. Like Eritrea and Gabon. These are just two of them. There are hundreds to be discovered.
But this update has not been just about the countries. Rather Microsoft has gone deep inside these countries to find out about the major and also important (in some ways) cities. Now one can actually visit a new country and go ahead and visit a not so heard about town. The list of the cities on can visit is endless.
Now coming to the April of 2009, this month saw another release of Earth Imagery. This one is of about 9 Tb. Way too smaller than the previous one but definitely equally important. This 9TB of data covers over 1 million square kilometers of earth. This list again contains thousands of names out of which many aren’t that known. Appreciation comes easy for all the hard work done as one goes through the list. The list is huge and doesn’t fail to surprise. The expressions on a face easily go from a smile to an exclamation sign.
With this list Microsoft has tried to cover the smallest of the towns in a country known to mankind. This Microsoft product is definitely set to taunt travelers with the never ending list of places that could be visited either this weekend or on the way to the other side of the globe. How is a person supposed to visit every place mentioned in one life time?
Now what’s new on Virtual Earth this month I-e May 2009?? This month Microsoft has come out with a very helpful update that everyone will want to look into. And it is the 2009 Swine Flu H1N1 Outbreak and Migration Map. The live search map has collection of reported cases highlighted on the map. This covers both the reported and unreported ones. It reports the tracks and the routes that the reported cases had travelled between home and vacation and also the business where they apparently contracted the strain. To build this the information from news and government agencies has been used.
