Enhanced features in Virtual Earth
Traffic and Direction Enhancement: Traffic based routing in Virtual Earth now makes use of MSR's clear flow technology for predicting side street traffic. The predictions are based on what has happened in live feed that is obtained from traffic.com. When you select the option ' Route around traffic”, you will obtain much more improved routes and accurate travel times. More cities are added from traffic.com to cover traffic flow data. You will observe much better coverage in Metro areas of United States and also greater coverage between cities and in the suburbs as well.
Tour Enhancements that included hi def movies: In the last release of Virtual Earth, the tour feature was introduced that allow users to share 3D Tours of live map collections. Users can save these tours as medium resolution movies for websites like Soapbox and YouTube. Now users can set their video output size up to 1920X1080 resolution at around 30 frames per second. Additionally users have more control over data rates, photo display and during recording process. The 'options' panel in Virtual Earth is commonly used for video recording.
Enhanced display of KML files that include Google my maps links: With the help of 'mapurl' parameter, you can see a KML view that is hosted on the web without importing it. In the new release KML support is improved to effectively handle custom icons and network links.
MapCruncher Integration: MapCruncher is a tool to register your raster maps for creating map tiles for mashups. MapCrunched layers can now be added inside of virtual Earth for sharing with others. When you are editing your collection, choose add MapCruncher layer from the 'actions' menu and specify the URL that points to your crunch. Now you can share your collections like any other. People who use the Explore feature can also find and see your crunched maps.
1- Click directions maps: These maps now support popup and clickable hotspots. The maps have now become interactive and overall presentation is clean and crisp. The page header makes it easier for you to share party map. Party maps are useful when you are familiar somewhat with an area and do not require any detailed directions for the route. They are perfect for sharing with a group of folks that are converging on a location.
Neighborhood can subscribe via GeoRSS: This allows you to zoom into the map to any place or area of interest. You can then use an RSS feed and stay updated on goings in the region. The RSS feed will now be populated by GeoWeb library. You can now use this RSS feed for your neighborhood to know all about contribution from your neighbors. Or you can grab a feed for the city that you are going to visit. Grabbing a RSS feed, is interactive and simple. When you are in Explore mode, click “subscribe to collections” link to obtain the RSS URL. You can add this link to a RSS reader and whenever you view it, recent entries of that area will be shown.
