Get Virtual Earth on Your Smart Phone
Microsoft’s newest version of Virtual Earth program has included pushpin location markers, driving directions drawn on the map and GPS development. Jason Fuller along with the Microsoft Windows Mobile team has announced about the newest modification that are made in the current version in his MSDN blog entry. Virtual Earth Mobile is a free application for mapping that energetically downloads the maps for the users that travels a lot and thus it is very good application for the people who travel regularly. This application works on Smart phones devices, iphones, Windows mobile, pocket PC and other handset that has GPS and internet connection.
VEM means Virtual Earth Mobile is an application for various handsets, which have GPS, and live internet service that will display satellite imagery and helps in locating business by category or name within a geographical location. The data for the mobile phones are downloaded from MSN Virtual Earth servers. Not like every other mapping application this program information is not preloaded onto the device. Thus it is only downloaded on demand and the limitation of this program is that internet connection is compulsory. The main advantage it hat you do not have to decide what maps to preload and you also require very little storage space.
Virtual Earth will cache up the information as you look into it and lets you view cached complete images, which are only for United States now. Virtual Earth Mobile is not a digitally signed application. So if you have a smart phone in which unsigned applications are not permitted for instance Sprint i600, Sprint i930 and Pantech PT-S800 then it will not run navigation. In order to view a map you can pan the map east and west, north and south by using the directional pad which is also known as D-pad or the arrow keys. The action button in the centre of the directional pad will be able to zoom the image in one level and on the smartphone the key * will zoom out and key # will zoom in.
The menu of the smart phone consist options like address which brings up an address for instance ‘429 Columbus Ave, Boston MA’ and you can also put the name of a place, for example ‘North Dakota’. Go to long/lat option lets you to select the map type like road, aerial or both road and aerial. Aerial and road is a mixture types that overlays road on top of a satellite or aerial photograph. Zoom option is used for setting the zoom level. GPS means global positioning system helps in bringing the map of your present location as reported by a GPs device. Apparently it requires the GPS hardware. You can use the GPS control panel on the Pocket PC in order to give which COM port the GPS device is connected to. There is an option find a business with which you can put any business name, for example ‘Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe’ or a category ‘Restaurant’ then VE will give you the whole list of such business that are located within the place you are currently viewing. This way you can also find a contact too. So Virtual Earth Mobile is a very good application for businessman or for the people who travels a lot regularly and have to find various places can use their smart phones by downloading VE.
