Managing the hardware acceleration while running the Virtual Earth 3D
Introduction
If the hardware acceleration of your system is not on, and if, you try to run the Virtual Earth 3D (Beta) software, you may receive a message saying that hardware acceleration is not on. Alternatively, it may happen that the 3D globe or 3D buildings, which you see in the 3D images, may appear either red or blue. If any of this happens, you can check with the following things. Try the following in the order that they are bellow, i.e. using the first in priority over the next.
However, before using the following things it is very important that, the Direct3D and DirectDraw acceleration should be on.
For checking it, follow the bellow given procedure.
a) For this turn on the Windows XP, and from there click “Start”>“Run”.
Alternatively, if you are using the Windows Vista, then from Windows Vista, click “Start”, and then open the “Start Search” text box.
b) In the search, box type dxdiag, and then press “Enter” key from the keyboard.
c) Then from the Display tab, confirm whether the Direct3D Acceleration and DirectDraw Acceleration are on. If they are not, then make them on by clicking on “Enable” option.
d) This will make them on. Then you can click “Exit”.
e) Then close the web browser and again restart it.
Remember
If you update the display drivers, your update may disable the Hardware acceleration options immediately. If you recently updated your display drivers when the options of Direct3D and DirectDraw acceleration were off, you need to turn off your computer and then, again restart it. Then after this, again do the above-mentioned steps. Then try these steps again. If this does not enable the Direct3D and DirectDraw acceleration options, check whether your display adapter has the most recent display drivers.
This procedure will confirm whether your Direct3D and DirectDraw acceleration are functioning, or not.
Step 2 Checking whether the hardware acceleration is set to its Full capacity.
For this, you should follow the following instructions.
If you are having Windows XP as the operating system, then follow the bellow-mentioned procedure.
a) Open the “Start” menu, and from there select “Run”.
b) Then, enter desk.cpl, and then press “Enter”.
c) Then choose “Advanced” from the “Settings” tab.
d) Check whether the Hardware acceleration slider is working at its Full capacity. This you can check at the “Troubleshoot” tab.
e) Then Click “OK” twice.
f) Lastly close the web browser and then again restart it.
If you are using the Windows Vista as the operating system,
a) From the “Start” menu, go to, and click in the “Start Search” text box.
b) In this “Start Search” text box enter desk.cpl, and then press “Enter” key.
c) Then open the “Advanced Settings” menu.
d) There is the “Troubleshoot” tab. In it, click “Change settings”.
e) Check whether the Hardware acceleration slider is on to Full capacity. If it is not, you should adjust it. When you do it, click “OK”.
f) Click “OK” twice.
g) Then Close the web browser and then restart it.
Remember
The Hardware acceleration slider is available only if display drivers support hardware acceleration. Therefore, you should check whether the display driver supports the hardware acceleration, or not
