Navigating the 2D maps

Introduction: If while viewing the maps with the bird’s eye views, you click on a place for which the Virtual Earth cannot provide the views, then in such cases, it displays a red colored X. if this happens trying the views for a little higher altitude may help. Therefore, zoom out by one level.

Changing the area of the maps displayed on the screen

You have many options for this too. You can close or collapse the maps, or move the feature panels as the panel saying welcome, or the collections editor, or the view control etc. Doing this would provide more viewable area for the maps. These features are not always in use and therefore closing them will not create mush inconvenience. However if you wish you can at anytime restore them.

The options for changing the viewable area of the maps are as under.

a) For closing the welcome panel, you can click on the “X” button on it. Later if you need it, you can just click on the welcome button and the panel will be restored.

b) You can also collapse the view controls by clicking on the minimize button present at the right side of the view control. Similarly, when you fill the need you can expand the view controls. By clicking on the maximize button. This would again restore view controls

c) You can move the collections editor from one location on the screen to the other. For this just click on its title bar and drag it along with the mouse.

You can also remove the collections editor from the screen by click X from its right side. On the other hand, you can open the collections editor by going to the Collections and from there choosing Open your collections.

Also in place of removing the collections editor, you can also alter their size. Clicking the minimize button would collapse the collections editor and clicking on the maximize button you can maximize it. Both these buttons are present on the title bar.

Further, a very important point to note is that when you collapse the panel the contents are not deleted. Therefore, you can freely collapse them and again maximize them when required.

Navigating the 3D maps

The 3D maps provide more features than the 2D maps. Therefore, for them you would find more option for navigation. For the features that are similar to the 2D maps the navigation options also are same.

Therefore, when viewing the maps you must always choose the type of view you are viewing.

Bellow are given, the navigational options for the features that are not present in the 2D maps.

a)Pivoting the maps:

The pivoting is the rotating the maps around a fixed point. This rotation in case in this case is horizontally around the point. Also, remember that when you use this feature and rotate the maps, the altitude and angle of view both remain constant.

For pivoting the maps, you can use the one of the following methods.

1 you can click on the ring from the compass and then rotating this ring by dragging it the desired direction would also rotate the maps.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
