New Features of the Virtual Earth Mobile
Virtual Earth Mobile is just very similar to that of World Wind; the only thing is that it can also work in the Smartphone devices and the older Windows Mobile Pocket PC. It does not need Windows Mobile 5.0 to run. It is a GPS (Global Positioning System) application extended and constructed from a sample article offered by the Microsoft.
The important features of the Virtual Earth Mobile includes address and place finding, browsing Virtual Earth road and the aerial maps, GPS support, yellow pages searching, integration with the Pocket Outlook to search the contacts and thumbtack navigation. The best of all the features is that the Virtual Earth Mobile boasts a cache of the maps viewed previously. This improves the performance as well as offers an offline experience to a large extent.
The Virtual Earth Mobile is a Pocket PC software application system with a huge collection of free windows mobile software, themes, enhancements, and games for the E-TEN, ASUS, handheld i-mate, Gigabyte and HTC Pocket PC Phones. It also features Bluetooth, wireless and database Pocket PC tools along with the organizer, map, navigation, medical and financial utilities absolutely free for your Windows Mobile.
Virtual Earth Mobile is a Pocket PC application 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 device and a Smartphone 2003 device that shows you the satellite, map photography, and helps you to search for a business or any particular category in any particular location. This data generally can easily be downloaded from Virtual Earth’s servers and its website. Here the map data is not preloaded on the device, but it is downloaded on demand. And for this, you require an internet connection at any cost. But again, the advantage here is that you don’t have to take nay efforts in determining what maps have to be preloaded, and also it requires a very little storage space.
The Virtual Earth Mobile caches the information as and when you view it. This helps in improving the performance and thus, enabling a user to observe the cached maps even when there is not internet connection. The Virtual Earth Mobile is not signed digitally and thus if you owe a Smartphone that doesn’t allow the unsigned applications to work such as Sprint i930, Sprint i800 or Pantech PT-S800, it won’t run on it. Whenever, you are viewing a map, you are allowed to pan the map in various directions like north, east, south or west for your convenience with the help of the directional pad or also referred to as D-pad or simply the arrow keys. The Action button located in the center of the D-pad can be zoomed in one level.
Then, the GPS system in the Virtual Earth Mobile brings up the map of the current location. Thus system, no doubt requires GPS hardware. On the Pocket PC you have a GPS control panel that can be used for specifying the COM port on which the GPS device is connected to. This GPS feature is enabled only on the Windows Mobile 5.0 devices currently as this device used a new feature that is available only in 5.0.
