Virtual Earth Mobile
Virtual Earth Mobile is an application that exhibits the satellites and maps photo images and searches the businesses by either name or category within a specific geographical area. This information is downloaded from the Microsoft Network Virtual Earth Servers. Here, the map data is not preloaded in the device; instead, it is downloaded on demand. For this, you require an active internet connection. One of the greatest advantages of this is that you do not have to decide which maps have to be preloaded and secondly, it requires a very little storage space.
Virtual Earth mobile is a pocket PC application that utilizes the information form the Microsoft’s Virtual Earth to show maps on the Windows Mobile Pocket PC. The Virtual Earth Mobile will cache the map information as you see it that gradually improves the performance and enables you to see the cached maps even when you don’t have an internet connection.
The Virtual Earth Mobile is not digitally signed and so, if you have a Smartphone that doesn’t enable the unsigned applications to run, for instance, Sprint i600, sprint i930 or The Pantech PT-S800, it won’t run. If you want to install and copy it to your Pocket PC or Smartphone, you will have to download the CAB file. This same file functions on both the device types. Just copy the CAB file to your device and then click on it to get it installed on your device.
Features of the Virtual Earth Mobile- Global Positioning System (GPS) - it will display you the map of the current location as reported b y the GPS device. This system needs GPS hardware. You can use the GPS control panel in the Pocket PC to get an idea about which COM port the device is linked to. This system does not work only on the Smartphone’s, as there is no control panel in it.
You can find a business through the Virtual Earth Mobile. Either just enter the name of a business like “Manish Mobile Shoppe” or the category like “Restaurant” and the Virtual Earth Mobile will display a list of all such businesses that are situated in the surrounding area. You can select any one of them and the Virtual Earth Mobile will show you a street level map of that particular business.
Apart from this; you can also fins a contact using the Virtual Earth Mobile. Select a particular person form your list of contacts, and exhibit a map of that person’s address as shown in your contacts. This feature is recently enabled only on Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. In this system, you are also allowed to set the maximum amount of storage space to use for downloading the maps. The more amount of space indicates the best performance as well as ability to see more number of maps even when not connected to the internet. You can also state tat where should the downloaded information be stored on either a removable storage card or built-in storage of the device.
