Add-ons in World wind Central:
Add-ons allow you to view the areas of your interest and trails. World wind central has a full list of add-ons arranged alphabetically for NASA world wind.
Creating add-ons :
Add-on are new feature of world wind and they are not produced by NASA. You can use them to view other planets or to magnify the areas, which are not covered by NASA. Add-ons can be viewed for education purposes or for mere fun. Add-ons are produced by different individuals from world wind community and World wind central will not be responsible for any damage or problem caused due to the installation of add-ons. There may be chance of software virus hiding in add-ons. So scan them before you download them. Also check whether your virus checking software is up to date.
You can install add-ons simply by double clicking them. However, plug INS that is in fact a part of add-on are not simple to install. They are more powerful than add-ons. They are piece of source code written in any programming language. The plug in developers can add some features in world wind to their code without affecting the source code.
Install add-ons simply like any other application. Download them and just follow the instructions on screen. But remember that world wind is closed before installing the add-ons. Some add-ons may appear like an icon in world wind. It will be activated when you click it. Some add-ons will be activated only when you click on the “layer manager” which is an icon in World wind. The layer manager will show a list of add-ons. If you want to view any one, you click in the small square box near to the respective add-ons. The box will show a tick mark which means that the add-on is activated.
Some add-ons may have sub menus that will be indicated by a triangle in addition to the square. IF you click in the triangle, the items in sub menu will be listed with the small circle. Click on the circle to activate the item in sub menu.
Some recommended add-ons :
Mars: You can select this add-on by double clicking the icon. This will show the details regarding the red planet. It includes high-resolution imagery of MARS and many place names. You can see the largest volcano in the solar system here. But it does not contain elevated data.
The planet: This add-on can be activated from Layer Manager. It contains low-resolution imagery and it does not contain any elevated data. But it is quite interesting as it displays the differences in planets in solar system. Though it is inaccurate, you can use this add-on in school level.
Solar system: This is yet another add-on that gives more data about the planets. It gives details about the moons in solar system.
Political world: This add-on displays each country in the world in separate color. You can use world wind’s place name feature along with this add-on so that you can see every country’s name. NASA, NASA world wind, Features of world wind, add-ons of world wind, using add-ons in world wind
