All about NASA
NASA, the National Aeronautics and space Administration is an agency of the US government that is solely responsible for the space programs of the nation’s public. It was established in1958 by the National Aeronautics and Space Act. Along with the space program, NASA is also accountable for the long-term military and civilian aerospace research. The self-described mission statement of NASA is to initiate the future in space exploration, aeronautics research and scientific discovery. The slogan of NASA is “for the benefit of all”.
Shuttle Era- the sp[ace Shuttle became the main focal point of NASA by late 1970s and 1980s. as they are launchable often and reused vehicles, for space shuttles were established by 1985. Shuttle was indeed not a good news for NASA because the flights were very expensive than they were initially projected. Nevertheless, then the Shuttle launched project like the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). This was a joint project between the European Space Agency and NASA. The Budget of This HST was relatively small, but it continued its operation, thus amusing the public and the scientists, as well. Some of its images have become very famous like the Hubble Deep Field.
NASA’s Future- the current space policy of the US states that NASA will accomplish an affordable and a sustained human and a robotic program of the space exploration. It will develop, use and acquire the civil space systems to progress the fundamental scientific knowledge of our solar system, earth system and the universe. The ongoing investigation of NASA includes thoroughly surveys of the Saturn and Mars and the studies of the Sun and the Earth. The other spacecrafts of NASA are presently working with Pluto and Mercury. Their next mission is Jupiter, thus NASA covers about half of the solar system itinerary.
From the year 2002, the mission statement of NASA that was used in planning documents and budget is to understand and protect our planet earth, to inspire the coming generation of explorers, and to investigate the universe and search for life. NASA had many successful space programs and missions that included about 150 manned missions. Some of the notable manned missions were form the Apollo program that included the achievement of the first man to walk on the moon. This Space shuttle Program had proved to be a great success, inspite of the loss of the two shuttles that resulted in the death of the entire crews. The Space Shuttles can land with the space station and also with the International Space Station.
The NASA Environmental Management System is the primary contributor to the knowledge of earth. It has used pictures and satellites form the space to display and show the different alterations that took place over years. It continues its research to destroy the black soot on the climate of the earth. This black soot or carbon causes harm to the North Pole i.e. raid melting of the sea ice and snow and changes in the atmospheric temperature.
