Earth Browser – Get ready to dive into the ocean of Geography
Earth browser is a present 3-D image of earth with updated information. It shows a high resolution image giving a precise picture of earth. The image can be rotated and its any part can be magnified. It is free and is provided in demonstration mode with some features disabled.
Earth browser is a copyrighted program of Lunar software, Inc. Features of Earth browser are 15 meter per pixel resolution, three 500m resolution maps of the Earth, daily updates, weather forecasting, weekly aquatic surface temperature animations, tropical storm and hurricane tracking, cloud animations, earthquake maps with magnitudes, Antarctic iceberg tracking, political borders, around 15000 volcanoes, times of all World time areas and screensavers also.
We will see now how to browse the Earth browser. The tools window provided within the main window control many of the earth browser features. There are four navigational buttons in tools to fly over the view of the earth.
The navigational buttons are as follows:
1. Rotate: To click and rotate the Earth in any direction and center it where you want. Dragging horizontally spins the globe about its axis. Right and left keys are used to rotate the globe.
2. Zoom In/out: There are two zooms; in and out. Up and down keys can also be used to zoom in or out.
The Display controls are:
1. Weather: To click on the weather button in tool window. Earth Browser has weather conditions for numbers of cities all over the world updating hourly. The weather display is toggled on or off by clicking the red thermometer button. Weather icons are seen above selected cities that show their current weather.
The weather forecast window shows current temperature, wind speed and direction, humidity, pressure and dew point. This is a good source for educational information about the world.
2. Clouds: To click on the cloud button in the tool window. The clouds are generated by picking up the information from 5 geosynchronous satellites and combining them together. The information is updated every 3 hours. Earth Browser can store up to 2 days of recent cloud images and can make a movie of the cloud movement.
By clicking on the shadow button, you can see which part of the Earth has a night and which part has a day. This is a good way to display the seasons. You will found following commands in the File menu of Earth Browser.
Map Style: To toggle between 3 different basic maps
Full Screen: To toggle between full screen version and small window version
Import/Export Settings: To save and restore your Earth Browser settings and also your additions
Set Language: To choose the language
Register: To enter your registration code making your copy fully functioning
Database Reset Procedure: To reset the Earth browser database
Entering/ Exiting Kiosk mode: To disallow some functions and links
The software has used data sources of Smithsonian Volcanism program for volcanoes, National earthquake Information center for earthquakes, University of Texas at Austin for tectonic plates, NASA physical Oceanography center for sea temperatures and many more others.
