Features of NASA World Wind 2
The NASA World Wind provides the features as the SRTM data, NASA SVS, MODIS imagery, and Globe. They are useful for knowing the different events that occur in the world. The globe provides the data of the climatic parameters as temperature, atmospheric pressure, etc.
SRTM data:
Its full form is Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Data. This in combination of the Land Sat 7 imagery allows the NASA World Wind to provide a very dramatic and virtual image of the earth and that too at the eye level. Therefore, while making use of this feature, you will feel that you are practically flying to any location for viewing it with your eyes. Moreover, the NASA World Wind can also provide the magnified views of the different places.
Therefore, you can also get the details of that place. This has made the use of the NASA World Wind equivalent to the experience of visiting that place.
NASA SVS:
This feature shows the animated data for the different events as hurricanes, cyclones, movement of clouds, etc. These animations are developed by the Goddard Space Flight Center i.e. GSFC.
While using the NASA World Wind, you can directly view these images on the interactive maps provided by it. Therefore, you can get their exact location and direction of movement, etc. All these events are displayed as icons on the maps. Therefore, even while browsing through the maps you can know the happenings at the different places on the globe.
MODIS imagery:
The MODIS is a set of images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. These images are relevant according to time and they are updated everyday. Therefore, they are useful to know the current events as Fires, floods, dust, smoke, storms or the volcanic activities going on, on the earth.
The NASA World Wind marks such events in the form of icons directly on the virtual globe. These icons are colored and easy to understand. When the users click on them, they are taken to, the details related to them. The details may contain the spot images and textual information.
The MODIS images may also download material, of publication quality and that too at a resolution of about 250 meters per pixel. In addition, the users can download different i.e. new set of images each day.
You can get a number of samples for them in the tour mode. The NASA World Wind would allow you to automatically, skim through them.
Globe:
This is the feature, which provides you the ability to browse through the world and get the data for the different climatic things at the different regions of the world. You can get the information of the temperature, rainfall, barometric pressure, cover of the clouds, or the student globe samples. The student globe samples also have a proper scale.
In addition, you can get all this data for the different times at that place. Therefore, you can get the temperatures of a city for a day from last month or year, etc.
Country and state (only for USA) borders
The NASA World Wind has a complete data of borders for all the countries. Further, especially for the USA it also provides the borders of the states.
