Some of the features are described bellow.
The 3D Engine-The 3D Engine is the feature with the help of which, it is possible to view the places on the globe in a 3D mode. The combination of this feature along with the resolution, that the world wind can provide, the users can get the experience as if they were really present and viewing that place with their own eyes. This has become possible because of the use of the LandSat imagery and the SRTM elevation data.
The second feature is the Blue Marble- It is the image of the earth, taken from the NASA’s observatory named blue marble. The resolution that these images can show is about one pixel per kilometer.
The LandSat 7- These are the images obtained from the LandSat 7, which is a satellite. These contain the very fine data for the places on the map and they were collected from the year 1999 to 2003. Their resolution is in the range 15 meters per pixel. They contain the different color bands as the infrared spectrum. Moreover, the NASA always updates this data.
SRTM- The SRTM i.e. the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission is a feature that provides the ability to browse through the virtual views of the different places. These provide such 3D and high resolution views that, while viewing the images the viewers may feel that they are actually flying around at that place. Moreover, while flying i.e. browsing through these images the viewers can also focus at any point and thus, they can get the details of that place.
The NASA SVS- These are the animated views of the things as the hurricanes, storms, and other such things on the globe. The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) produces them. They are available to the viewers through the NASA world wind, and the viewers view them on the virtual globe and thus they can see and know the exact position and the areas affected.
MODIS- It is the moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. This feature provides the data of the important things that may be occurring at the different places on the globe. This data consist of the volcanic eruptions, rains, fire, etc.
These are seen directly on the images that the world wind provides. They are represented with the help of specific symbols, which are placed at the place of their occurrence.
