Features of the NASA World Wind

The world of NASA World Wind is completely a three dimensional interactive globe. You can get started with it from the download section. NASA World Wind allows you to zoom from the satellite altitude on any place on the Earth. By controlling the Land Sat satellite images and the Topography Mission Data, it will enable you to experience the earth terrain in a three dimensional form. You can virtually visit any place on earth- the Andes, Alps, African Sahara, The Grand Canyon, etc.

Let us see briefly the different features of the NASA World Wind:

3D Engine- you can view the earth’s terrain in its 3D form as if you were actually present there. It is very easy to use and thus the NASA World Wind is enjoyed by people of all ages.

Blue Marble- it has the entire copy of the blue marble that is a true image of the earth. You can see the blue marble in its glory at one kilometer per pixel resolution by putting together the data from different satellites like Terra and Modis.

Land Sat7- with the help of NASA World Wind, you can zoom the past blue marbles and expose all the details of the seamless mosaic. Users can browse the different sets when they are available. If there are any changes or updates, they will be automatically composed by the world wind. You can see your own city, landmarks or neighborhood in your own locality. Viewing the whole globe in this way is really amazing.

SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) - blending the Land sat 7 images with this, world wind will display the earth’s view at your eye level. This will enable you to fly across the world in almost nay direction. Also at the same time, it will overstate these views to pick out the details easily.

NASA SVS- intense animations demonstrate a number of subjects like seasonal changes and hurricane dynamics. These animations are taken by World Wind and played directly on the world. You can understand immediately where the event is being taking place as it keeps on rotating automatically.

Country and State Borders- all the set of borders are incorporated completely in World wind that traces all the states and countries. These boundaries become more specific as you zoom in to the world. You will get to know about the rivers and mountain ridges forming the political boundaries of the state or a country.

NASA World Wind is a computer program that enables you to zoom in the global view of the planet Earth. It gives you three dimensional pictures of the elevation, climatic conditions, vegetation and cities by population, etc. Individuals can explore the whole world virtually by using their PC’s with this new technology. NASA World Wind provides you with NASA Satellite Data that is compiled after years of observations of the temperature, precipitation, barometric pressure and any such factors. The computer users get access to this free NASA World Wind program through the internet and it is estimated that most of the users are from USA.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
