Installing NASA World Wind

NASA world win is an open source software that anyone can download and use it. These days latest version available is version 1.4. In this version, more features (technical abilities) have been added. In order to download and install NASA World, you computer should fulfill some requirements. These requirements are a must so that NASA World Wind runs and functions properly.

System requirements are as follows: In order to use NASA World Win, you should have a machine that has an operating system. Go for Windows 2000 or its higher version. NASA world win may not work properly on Windows 98 or 95. Note that this software was not designed to work on Windows Vista. At this moment, the search system does not support Macintosh or Linux.

It is necessary that your computer have a 3D graphics card as images provided by this software feature 3D graphics. Internet connection for your computer is a pre- requisite for NASA World Wind. In addition to all these system requirements, your computer must have Microsoft Managed DirectX9.Oc.and Microsoft.NET 2.0. The installer of your pc should have the capability to detect and install both these software by default. You can also install this software manually, if you think there has been an error. If you have decided to install manually then first you should install .Net software and then DirectX.

The minimum configurations required without which it is not possible to install World Win are as follows:

The machine on which you have decided to install World Win must have minimum 500 MHz CPU. 128 MB of RAM is also essential. In addition to this RAM, the computer must have 500 MB of free disk space. In this case, default cache size of World Win is 2 GB. This much configuration will allow your computer to run NASA world wind.

If you want the software to operate at its best, the following configuration is necessary. This configuration is needed for additional features such as sun shading and atmospheric scattering: A CPU that has a speed of 1.4 GHz, Free disk space of 3GB.

RAM size should be minimum 256 MB and at least a cable or DSL connection. Users who have a computer that satisfies all these above recommended requirements can download this software. All you have to do is access its official website and click on the download button. The download of NASA World wind does not require much time.

Note that blue marble feature of World wind is not there in the installer. This is done to decrease the size and time of initial download. This feature will be downloaded as you start using NASA World Wind.

Even though installation process of NASA World Wind is simple, some problems may occur. These problems arise because your computer lacks something. The most common error is the Fatal Error dialog box. In this case, you should set your display to 32 or 16 bit color. It has been said by experts that this issue arises if the display unit is 32 or 24 bit. The 16 bit color monitor works fine. Alternatively, you should check your graphics card as it might be give rise to this serious problem.
