Installing NASA World Wind

1)The video card does not work and NASA World Wind shows an error that it is not able to create the Direct3Dm_Device3d.

In such a condition, it is advisable to check out whether the Video Card is compatible or not. This can be done by referring to the list of compatible video cards. You may also edit the list if his card works.

However his card is compatible and even then you are facing the problems you should confirm that the video card drivers are recent ones. Moreover, Managed DirectX should have been installed. If it is not, you can go to Start-> Run and then enter ‘dxdiag’. On doing this the DirectX Diagnosis program will be loaded. Below the Display, you should check whether everything is working and enabled.

2)NASA World Wind does not run, instead it crashes with a error message saying ‘JIT debugger’

These are one of the serious errors, which can occur. In such a situation, the process ID and thread ID both do not help at all. However if you get some other error messages at such a time they can be helpful.

The more information about debugging this error can be obtained by starting world wind application right from the command line and then sending back the error to a file.

This happens when the system does not have .NET installed on it or has become corrupt however; you try to run an application in .NET. In such a situation, you should install .NET if it is not there and if it is already there, you should remove and reinstall it.

5)Cordbg.exe!a0x5b4 code

This is one of the compatibility problems of .NET. Therefore, you should remove and reinstall it. The procedure for doing this is given below.

a)First, uninstall the complete .NET from the computer.

b)Then remove .NET from the windows Directory. Note that instead it may lie in the Program Files directory as well.

c)Then REBOOT the system.

d)Start the install for World Wind.

e)The install will ask you to install .NET and provide you instructions for doing so. Note that it is important that the NASA World Wind install provides you all this. However if this does not happen then you may have forgot to delete something.

f)Then, again REBOOT the system.

g)Again, start the World Wind install.

h)This time it may ask you to install DirectX runtime. Agree to it by clicking “ok”.

i)After this again start the World Wind install.

j)Then finish.

Note: some more debugging help can be obtained from the blog post where you can find many verification tools.

6)Missing Landsat icons more the Layer Manager does not show images.

In such a situation, you may miss “Images” or “Zoomlt!” options in the Layer Manager. You should confirm that internet connection is available at that moment. In addition, you should check whether you proxy or firewall blocking are blocking world wind as these features are downloaded only when you start NASA World Wind.
